Terms of Business

(Updated 30/01/2024)

To ensure a smooth experience for everyone we work to these terms:

Contacting us: We prefer WhatsApp, but of course will take phone calls and SMS, and also email. Whilst we attempt to respond as quickly as possible, we have no physical office so response time may vary. If no-one is available to answer your query this may be because of holidays or time off. We will always where practically possible, leave an auto response explains when to expect a personal response on WhatsApp. We generally can not take calls at night, but will pick up messages as soon possilbe in the morning.

Booking us in: We always endeavour to attend when stated and give practical time slots. As we are an electrical contractors we don't always know what we will be working on when we arrive on site. If we are going to be delayed we will contact you as soon as possible. If your given time slot is critical for you, please let us know so we can take this into account.

Arrival on site: Please inform us of any parking restrictions. We expect the client to pay for any parking or provide permits where necessary. If you are a business customer or landlord we will add this to your invoice. If we need to obtain parking farther away this time will be added as part of the job. If you advise to park in an area which may arise to a payment request or fine, this will be added to your final invoice, should this be the case.

Access: Please inform us of access and if we need to collect keys. We will only charge for collecting keys if this add more time to the job. We can contact tenant directly for landlords, but the landlord is still responsible should any issues arise. If no one is at the property when we arrive, we will try and contact the client or tenant and wait for upto 10 minutes. If we still have no response, we will take a photo of the door and leave. This will then incur a call out fee, which will need to be paid again if you wish us to return to site. If our visit was to carry out agreed work, a call out will be charged and we will contact you to re arrange. We can always send an update when en route to make things easier and more convenient for you. We normally try and send a written message to save time and be informative. If the client is a landlord, they are responsible for payments due arising from not being able to access the property. We will not collect or ask your tenats to pay this. We can however provide you the invoice showing this charge.

Cancelling: If you need to cancel for any reason please contact us ASAP. We reserve the right to charge the agreed cost to cover loss of business or the call out where applicable. If you need to cancel please give us as much notice as possbile so we can re arrange or reschedule other work, if we can do this successfully we won't charge you, except where materials have already been sourced, which are subject to a restocking fee. If you are a private customer (not business or landlord) you have 14 days to cancel without reason, unless the work is due to start wtihin the 14 days. Any materials or costs incurred by SB Electrical will still need to be paid for. This does not affect your statutory rights. We will only ever cancel your job for reasons stated in the payments section of this document or in extreme circumstances which we cannot foresee.

Materials: We can supply materials, which ensures you have the correct items on site, and we can come equiped with extras should the job change course. Where we supply materials they sometime have a small mark up to cover time collecting and organising. Where this is the case materials supplied are covered by us. We always source quailty materials to ensure a quality job. Sometime it is more appropriate for the client to source materials, for example choosing light fittings to their own taste or appliances etc. In this case the client is fully responsible for the materials they have supplied and a charge will be made if we need to wait for them, or they need replacing due to being faulty. We work with suppliers who can show you a full range of electrical accessories if your job needs a specific asthetic finish. We can then organise the delivery of materials to meet the work start date. SB Electrical is not VAT registered, so we will include the VAT paid by us in the cost of materials. No VAT is paid on labour. If you by them directly from a supplier this may not be the case and VAT may be shown seperatly.

Quotations: When we attend to provide a quotation, this does not include any diagnostic or fault finding. If there are faults we will quote this per hour to find and then discuss the findings with you to plan the next steps. As we will not remove covers or investigate when provided a quotation we cannot guarantee 100% that we won't find anything which needs attention when carrying out the work. If we suspect something may be an issue we will inform you and possible add it to your quotation and then remove it from your invoice should there not be an issue. Before any electrical installation can take place the existing instllation needs to be adequate, including electrical bonding. We will try to look at this where possible and inform you if there may be an issue. https://www.electricalsafetyfirst.org.uk gives independent advise to homeowners.

Estimates: When asking for a price of smaller work, we can sometime do this from information and or photos provided by the client. However this assumes that the current electrical system which affects the new work is currently adequate.

Travel: Our call out covers Leicester and some surrounding areas. Where the job is outside of these areas, travel will be added, which we can quote you for. The travel fee will still need to be paid on top of the call out, this includes not being able to gain access with regards to the 'access' part of this document.

Carrying out work: Compliance with BS 7671 IET wiring regulations is out 1st priority, along side EaWR 1989 and H&S at Works Act 1974. If the work we have quoted for will cause any deviation from these or any other building regualtion we will speak to you to discuss the next step. We will always keep mess and noise to a minimum, but when carrying out certain work this cannot be avoided. Redecoration is the responsibility of the client, but we will advise you of options which may avoid redeoration where applicable. We will not work in an environment which is not safe or abusive. Should this be the case we will contact the police where appropriate. As your home or property is our place of work, we ask that you do not smoke whilst we are working in the area. As this is also your home we will respect it and use overshoes/boot covers if requested. We ask that where possbile, us and any contractors working with us can use your toilet and hand washing facilities should they be required.

Returning to the property: If you have an issue or find something is not working after we have left site, please let us know ASAP. It is best to send a photo and/or video where possbile. If we return to site and find that this is due to user error, a call out will be charged, plus any travel if applicable.

Materials/Tools left on site: During larger work, we may device it easier to leave items on-site. We will seek permission 1st and never leave items of high value. Any items left will be charged for should they be damaged or stolen.

Payment: Unless agreed prior to work, private customers must pay on completion of work, or each stage of the work via: BACS (bank transfer), Credit/Debit card, Contactless payments (depdending on your platform and total cost), cash or cheque (upto £500). Business customers may receive an invoice for payment, which will be due within 30 days, or 7 days for new customers. Larger amounts may require immediate payment. If your account with us is over due we may not carry out any further work until this is made upto date. We may also request that payments is made if the sum of outstanding invoice reaches a limit before carrying out further works. We do not provide credit or installment plans, however we can accept a credit card. Business customers may be charged a fee to cover credit/debit card charges. (This does not apply to consumers)

Complaints: In the unlikely event of an issue with our service, please first of all address your concern directly so we can ensure action where required. Should you need to make a complaint, please fill out the form on our contact us page of www.sbelec.uk or write to us at: SB Electrical Unit 49524 PO Box 15113 B2 2NJ. " Sam managed to squeeze me in and came out exactly when he said he would. He also sent me his location to save me waiting by the door for him. Fixed the problem and I've got all my electricity back on. I am now considering getting some more work done after showing him some ideas for extra light. "
